We have a crawler!

Haidyn crawled for the first time on Saturday, July 23rd.  I was entering some Pampers codes online using the laptop in her room, and she crawled over to see what I was doing.  I ran to get the video camera and we tried to get her to crawl to the laptop again.  It is absolutely precious…she was getting so frustrated and whined just about the whole time.  Since Saturday she has learned how to get herself from a sitting position to a crawling position, and this morning she has been crawling all over.  Our lives have definitely become much more interesting!

Seven Months

Seven months is a very serious time in Haidyn’s life. I had a really hard time getting her to crack a smile and an even harder time getting her to sit still long enough to take a good picture! These days she is trying really hard to crawl. She can get up on her hands and knees and rock a little bit. She can sometimes get herself forward but usually moves backward. She is just so cute. Here are some of the things I want to remember about her at this point in time:

  • She crosses her feet when she’s nursing or riding in her car seat.

  • She growls. We don’t know why or where she picked up on it, but it’s hilarious.

  • She says mama, baba, and dada. (But for the record, “mama” came way before “dada.” That’s my girl!!!)

  • She eats a lot some days and not so much others. Favorite foods so far are sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, apples, pears, and apples & pears with cinnamon.

  • She likes trying out her voices – the growl, a whisper, a high pitched squeal, and her talking voice.

  • She loves to grab Lola’s tail. It hasn’t happened very often, but when it does the look on her face is priceless. It’s like you gave her the best present in the whole world.

  • She loves to have a “lovey” (a.k.a a small blanket) when she sleeps. Before putting her down, I give her the lovey and we sway and sing lullabys. She’ll snuggle against you with her face buried in the lovey. It’s one of my favorite parts of our day!

4th of July and Kansas City

We headed back to Oklahoma for the 4th of July weekend. We spent a couple days in Tulsa with Jonathan’s parents. I took no pictures while we were there – oops! On Saturday they offered to let us have a lunch date while they went swimming with Haidyn in their baby pool. She had a great time and took the longest nap that afternoon. On Sunday we headed to Bartlesville to celebrate the 4th with a bunch of friends. The Standridges invited us all out to their beautiful house in the country to eat, play, ride four wheelers, and watch fireworks. It was a great weekend and so fun to get to see everyone!

I spent the rest of that week in Owasso so I could be there to help my dad move into his new house. I didn’t get any pictures of the new house, but I’ll be sure to get some the next time we’re there. Annie came up to Sarah’s house with John and baby Elaine. My mom and Annie had a very special relationship…I know she would’ve LOVED seeing Haidyn and Elaine together! We were so glad they would make the short drive up to see us.

Haidyn Elizabeth turned 6 months old on June 14th.  What a big girl!  She loves sitting up and playing with her toys.  She also loves to be standing and can hold onto a table or toy for a few seconds by herself.  Her legs aren’t quite strong enough to hold her, yet, which is totally fine with me!  It just means that one of us has to be holding onto her at all times.  She also tries really hard to pull herself up, especially when she’s sitting on my lap.  She’ll grab my shirt and pull until she’s standing…usually with a tiny bit of help from me.  And then her favorite game is to pull off my glasses, pinch my nose, claw at my mouth, etc.  She’s definitely a busy girl!  When she’s on her tummy she tries really hard to move forward; but much to her dismay, she has only mastered scooting backward.  She can sometimes get her knees underneath her (yikes!) and has even gotten up on her hands and toes.  I think we might have a crawler on our hands soon.  It would be great because she gets so frustrated when she can’t get where she wants to go, but I have a LOT of baby-proofing to do around here before she gets moving.

We’ve been going to a music class on Monday mornings, and Haidyn loves it.  There’s a big drum on the floor at the beginning, and she bangs away to the music.  She also loves Matilda the Gorilla who comes out and sings.  She laughs whenever Matilda “gets” her.  It’s so cute!  After that she mostly just eats the instruments, but we still have a good time.

This month we started solid foods.  So far she’s had carrots, sweet potatoes, and this morning she had butternut squash for the first time.  I don’t think we need to worry about having a picky eater…she’s loved everything.  She’s also eating rice cereal, oatmeal and mixed-grain cereal.  And the pediatrician told us we could start giving her an ounce or two of water in a sippy cup.  Seriously, this girl is getting so big!  I can’t believe it.

IMG_6616Getting ready to eat.  We decided to eat outside on the deck since it was so beautiful.  Dining “al fresco” as Aunt SES put it.

IMG_6625Mmmmm…yummy!

I decided to try making her baby food.  It’s actually been really fun and super easy.  I started with carrots last week.  I steamed them and then pureed them in the blender with a little bit of the water.  Then I poured them into an ice cube tray and froze them.  I know lots of people who have made their own food, and they all said it was easy, but I was still pleasantly surprised at just how easy it was.  And our great friend Kylie passed down her ice cube trays, so it’s been super inexpensive as well.  After the carrots, I’ve made sweet potatoes, butternut squash, peas and avacado.  I figured out that the sweet potatoes cost 6 cents per serving and the squash was 12 cents.  You can’t beat that!  I know my mom has a bunch of baby food recipes, so I’m really excited to get those from my dad and give them a try.

We’re also starting to see more and more of Haidyn’s personality emerge, which is so exciting.  She’s super happy and smiles at just about everyone she meets.  She loves sitting up in the shopping cart and high chairs when we are out and about.  She also adores all the attention she gets from strangers.  Maybe she will have her daddy’s outgoing personality!  However, when she gets tired or hungry she can be a bit sassy and some might even say “feisty.”  (No idea where she gets that from…)  The other morning I was trying to get out the door for church and noticed that Lola hadn’t been fed.  I was already holding Haidyn, so I just grabbed the bowl and went into the garage to get her food.  Every time I put a scoop of food into the bowl, Haidyn grabbed it and threw it on the ground.  It was cute at first, but then I had to sternly tell her that the food needed to stay in the bowl.  She made a growling noise and then head-butted me on the shoulder.  Wow.  The teenage years are going to be SUPER fun with this one!  Ha ha.

Oh, and I almost forgot her stats:

Weight: 16 lbs. 1 oz. (55th percentile)

Height: 26 inches (60th percentile)

Head: 42.5 cm (50th percentile)

I can’t believe half of her first year is already over.  Being a mom has been the greatest joy of my whole life!  It’s everything I’ve ever wanted.  Sometimes I still can’t believe she’s ours.  We love you, Haidyn…to the moon and back!

Oklahoma Trip

The week after Father’s Day, Haidyn and I headed to Bartlesville to help my dad start packing up the house. He has been talking about selling his house for a few months but got serious about it this summer. It sold in 4 days! Not surprising if you know how my mom decorated – the house is absolutely gorgeous – but still put him on “go” to get everything in order, packed, find a new house, etc. God is definitely good, though, and he found another wonderful house in the same neighborhood – even a few houses down from his best friends. My mom’s two sisters, Mary and Carole, came to help. Mary brought Uncle Al and James, my cousin’s son, with her. I still can’t believe how much we accomplished, and we definitely couldn’t have done it without their help. We packed over 100 boxes!

IMG_6516James was so incredibly sweet with Haidyn and kept her entertained. We love him! IMG_6525 Haidyn meeting Aunt Mary for the first time. Mary and Alison bought her this darling outfit.IMG_6529 Haidyn also got to meet Uncle Al for the first timeIMG_6534 Megan and Karsten stopped by that evening to see us. As James said, “Aunt Suz must’ve really liked those chickens!”IMG_6557 One evening we went to Owasso to go swimming. This floaty from Aunt SES was a big hit. Haidyn just floated around the baby pool like she owned the place.IMG_6584 Miss Emmie enjoyed helping Haidyn around the pool.IMG_6595 Enjoying more time with Aunt CaroleIMG_6564 This is the life!IMG_6601Grandpa helping her stand…check out the tongue. Father’s Day Weekend

Over Father’s Day Weekend we were very excited to have both of our families in town.  We also got to celebrate the upcoming arrival of our good friends’ baby.  Dustin and Lindsay are expecting their first baby, a boy named Keller, in August.  It was great to celebrate the fact that they are growing their family on this weekend.

On Friday night we went to the Cardinals/Royals baseball game.  My Uncle Bruce, Aunt Lori, cousins Amanda, Kevin and his wife Bailey were also in town.  We got to have breakfast with them on Saturday morning.  Then we had a couples baby shower for Dustin and Lindsay at our house on Saturday evening.  On Sunday we had a quick celebration with Jonathan before I headed back to Oklahoma with my dad and sister.  Whew!  What a busy few days.

We had a great time and were so excited to celebrate the love and guidance of our dads.  It was also extra special to celebrate Jonathan’s first Father’s Day with his little girl.  It is so fun to watch them together.  I just love those two so much!  And my dad and father-in-law...Haidyn and I are so very blessed!
